It’s National Grandparents Day
It’s National Grandparents Day!
Yes! There is a day set aside to honor grandparents everywhere!
The first Sunday following Labor Day Weekend was selected to honor grandparents by President Jimmy Carter in 1978.
When you Google ‘grandparents’ you will notice that there are organizations that dedicate themselves to the honoring and utilization of grandparents for things such as fostering children, attending to senior citizens in need of help, and other community needs.
Mentoring and loving at-risk children in our community has become an endeavor that organized grandparents have taken on for the betterment of not only the children, but the parents and communities.
Our society has changed and there are many more grandparents who no longer retire at the age of sixty-five years.
Not only are both of our parents expected to hold full-time jobs, but often our grandparents have to remain part of the workforce in order to afford a decent standard of living. We are not talking about luxuries here…we are talking about the cost of medical insurance and medical bills, along with the medications prescribed.
That makes grandparents not as available for childcare and domestic activities. We have a workforce made up of people who are also trying to make ends meet while still trying to raise a family, who cannot depend on their parents to help them.
The traditional roles have now shifted once again and everyone feels the pressure and the tension. We need to honor our grandparents for the love, encouragement and support that they do bring to our families.
When we make the time to connect with our grandparents, we are letting them know that they are important in our lives and they are not forgotten. We love them.
That is why Step and Repeat LA asks you to connect to the ones you love today.
Give your grandparents a visit. Honor them with a party or just a visit. Send them a card. Or use Skype and talk to them.
Please check out the outreach programs and organizations created by and for grandparents. These are valuable activities that could use our support. Help make up a fundraiser to provide needed funding for these programs. Help keep these programs helping our children and our communities.
Contact us here at StepandRepeatLA.com by our website or give us a call at (818) 434-7591. We can help you create banners and media walls that will help make your fundraiser look even more professional.
Happy Grandparents Day!
