International Literacy Day
International Literacy Day
International Literacy Day is just around the corner. The official day is September 8th.
It is an international holiday created by The United Nations and first celebrated September 8th, 1965.
There is almost nothing that is more important to our society than the ability to read. The statistics of how many people in our country that cannot read is appalling. The ability to read equals freedom! That is what this country is all about.
Sometimes teaching someone to read can be a labor intensive activity fraught with emotional upheaval. At least in the cases of people who have become adults but have never had the opportunity to learn while they were growing up.
Some people never get past the level of primary books. A lot of people are forced to drop out of schools.
We, as parents, want our children to do better than us. To reach higher, to win!
And that takes certain fundamental skills to achieve – the ability to read, the ability to solve problems, the ability to think.
Let’s get together and raise funds to pay for the education that will allow our children to succeed! Let us get together to support those that can take the time and have the skills to help teach our kids and even some of our parents to gain the skills that will make the greatest difference in their lives.
