Step and Repeat LA Elevates the Experience for Cirque du Soleil Mystère at COSM
When working with a brand as visually iconic as Cirque du Soleil, every design detail matters. For the presentation of Mystère at COSM, Step and Repeat LA was tasked with creating a backdrop that could match the energy, artistry, and immersive nature of the performance itself.
The result was a stunning 33-by-10-foot custom media wall that transformed a traditional step-and-repeat into a bold visual statement.
Rather than relying on a flat printed backdrop, Step and Repeat LA introduced oversized 3D cutout lettering that immediately added depth and dimension to the installation. The dimensional letters were designed to stand off the surface, creating natural shadows and highlights that shifted under event lighting—bringing a dynamic, almost theatrical quality to the piece.
This design choice aligned seamlessly with the surreal and layered aesthetic that defines Mystère. Known for its dreamlike visuals and intricate staging, the show’s identity was echoed in the media wall’s ability to feel alive from every angle. Guests didn’t just stand in front of the backdrop—they interacted with it, becoming part of a fully immersive visual moment.
Beyond its artistic impact, the media wall served a critical functional role. Positioned as a focal point for photography and media coverage, it ensured that every image captured carried strong branding, depth, and a sense of scale. The 3D elements elevated each shot, making photos feel more editorial and less like standard event coverage.
